affairs class in the church Library.
CORE, Wednesday 6:30-8:00 pm
When was the last time you made a New Year’s
Resolution that really made a difference?
What if you decided to discover a depth of spiritual life that you never experienced before? Starting this week we are reading and studying Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline. This book is a modern Christian classic. You can pick up a copy anywhere Christian books are sold. Used copies are readily available online. You might also want to pick up the study guide which is a companion to the book. The Adult C.O.R.E. class will be discussing Celebration of Discipline Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00 in or church library. (If you are coming straight from work, you are welcome to bring your brown bag dinner to class.) Even if you can’t come to class, we urge you to read and study this book over the next 13 weeks.
Why should I devote my time and energy to this?
Dividing the Disciplines into three movements of the Spirit, Foster shows us how each of these areas contribute to a balanced spiritual life.
· The inward Disciplines of meditation, prayer, fasting,
and study offer avenues of personal examination and change.
· The outward Disciplines of simplicity, solitude, submission,
and service help prepare us to make the world a better place.
· The corporate Disciplines of confession, worship, guidance,
and celebration bring us nearer to one another and to God.
“The Disciplines are the means for receiving God’s grace. Beyond our placing ourselves in attention to God by these Disciplines, the rest is God’s work, God’s love entering in to grow our love.”
